Atropa said: After having read about Gnat's great hair experiment I wrote to Wildfire, but their tubing was just too expensive for just playing around with. So I ordered some PVC sleeving from RS components instead in all of their 4 available colours (black, red, green and green+yellow, 2mm sleeving).
I had a basic idea of how I was going to attach the tubing, but I still wanted to try it out before I did it on someone else so I tried it on myself. I chose red and black tubing. I braided my hair and wrapped the braids in red and black electrical tape and then I tied about 5-9 pieces of plastic tubing to each wrapped braid. I was now practised and ready to try it on someone else.... BUT then Jenny called me and told me she was sick and we have to her hair some other time. I was really dissapointed, but then I added some more plastic to my hair and it looked pretty cool. So instead of Jenny I had plastic tubing hair at the New Years Eve party.
The total cost was about 150 Kr for 2 reels (50 meters/each) of tubing which is about $15 (US) + 2 rolls of electrical tape 20 Kr which is about $2. However I would have used more tubing if doing them properly and not just to practice.
What I learned:
*The wrapping of braids with electrical tape was a good idea (I think Pepi's hairspace use extension hair for this), however I fear it will be difficult to remove so if I do it on someone else I'll probably wrap the hair in strips of non-sticky plastic before wrapping them in sticky- tape....
*I'm not too happy with my knots. I'm sure there must be a much better way to tie the plastic to the braids (I'll have to work on this problem)
My 7 year old sister said it looked like I have spaghetti-hair which I thought sounded rather cute. I have never seen anyone with hair like this here in Stockholm so I get quite a lot of attention which I'm not used to anymore since I stopped wearing bright extensions because of work. Very enjoyable despite the extra weight.
