I made these using two and a bit bags of jumbo braid kanekalon, which
was backcombed and sealed with a hairdryer (there are 52 dreads). I used
a piece of thin gardening wire to make the small hole in the top of the
dread needed for threading my real hair through - it was ideal, because
it could be wrapped around objects to use as an anchor whilst backcombing
etc, and then unwrapped very easily. I used a latchhook to pull my real
hair through the hole, before plaiting the hair.
This was
my first attempt, using Ashbet's method, and
in fact my first go at making backombed dreads. I thought I had made them
fairly thin, but they puffed up a bit once I had attached them to my head.
I panicked at first because I thought my hair looked too 'big', but I
love it now I have got used to it.
